Applications: MOLCLAY™ HK is commonly used in pharmaceutical formulations as a tablet diluent, bulking agent and external poultice base. Its larger particle size and higher bulk density make it particularly suitable for topical preparations, dusting powders and medicated pastes. It helps absorb moisture, oils and wound exudates, providing a protective and soothing effect on irritated skin. Its excellent stability, inertness and compatibility make it a valuable excipient in solid dosage forms and dermatological formulations.

1 Description It occurs as fine, white or greyish white, soft powder.

(A) A gelatinous white precipitate is produced.
(B) It gives reaction of silicates.
3 Solubility It is practically insoluble in water and in organic solvents. It does no dissolve in mineral acids and in solutions of alkali hydroxides.
4 Acidity or alkalinity. The solution is colourless. Not more than 0.25 ml of 0.01 M sodium hydroxide is required to change the colour of the solution to pink.
5 Arsenic Not more than 2 ppm.
6 Chlorides Not more than 250 ppm.
7 Sulphates Not more than 750 ppm.
8 Substances soluble in mineral acid Not more than 1%.
9 Organic impurities The residue is only slightly more coloured than the original substance.
10 Adsorption power The solution is not more intensely coloured than a 0.003% solution of methylene blue.
11 Swelling power The mixture does not flow.
12 Loss on ignition Not more than 15.0%.

PACKAGING

MOLCLAY™ HK is packed in HDPE bag or HDPE drum with double PE liners inside having bar-coded label and tamper-evident seal.

SHELF LIFE, STORAGE AND PACKING

The shelf life is 5 years. It is preserve in well-closed containers.
